The lightning storms were unlike anything I had experienced before.Īnyway, yea, that's what just seeing some little part like that reminds me of. Lightning struck that same pole about two or three times that season. Original Xbox controllers had them too, but with different shaped connectors. So when that finally came in, I started to install it, and in the middle of installation, lightning struck AGAIN, but just took out a power line outside, merely cutting the power. It's a breakaway cable for a wired 360 controller - the end of the controller cable is designed to come off easily if you pull on the wire or trip over it, so it doesn't drag the console onto the floor. ![]() THEN, a month or two later when I finally got everything set back up, I realized that I needed to update my Mac OS X in order to use the ethernet to USB adapter. The Xbox has also pioneered safety features, such as breakaway cables for the controllers to prevent the console from being pulled from the surface upon. Then it sounded like the storm was finally gone, and then, one final strike, as if the storm said, "Fuck you, bitch, I finally got yo ass, motherfucker. ![]() I dont have an logitech forum account to view the post mentioned in its original text though. USB Breakaway Cable for Xbox 360 Wired Controllers Provide additional protection for you Xbox with Trenros breakaway cables for Xbox 360 wired controllers. Here is a reddit post (in this subreddit) shedding some light on it. It was constant lightning all around the house. After a little bit of digging it doesnt look like it would provide 100 function even though the 360 breakaway cable would physically connect. Had to get them to replace the cable itself and had to buy an ethernet to USB adapter.īought a new internet router, though later found out that it wasn't the problem (the actual cable outside was frayed from the strike). Killed just the ethernet port on my computer (lightning traveled through internet cable as well), but spared everything else. This design mitigates the age old 'tripped on the controller cable yanked my NES off the entertainment center' conundrum. I heard the lightning travel through my home into the electronics and tripping the main power (in an instant). It's so that the controller becomes unplugged at the breakaway point when the cable is pulled a little, rather than yanking on your console or controller. The power supplies to the hard drives were destroyed but spared the actual hard drives. Lightning struck my home a couple years back and those little fuckers saved my hard drives (I assume). I say that because something that looks like those are connected to the power cords on my external hard drives. ![]() My guess would have been if lightning struck and traveled through your electric into your xbox (protecting the controller and maybe the whole system in possible combination with another like it located closer to the power supply).
